In one of his Christmas speeches, the Pope lectured Vatican leadership on the wasteful bureaucracy it fosters. Feeling indispensable, the pathology of power and excessive planning are just a few of the scathing observations made public.
Pope Francis also said “”a church that doesn’t try to improve is like a sick body.”
Replace “church” with “organization” and the frustration remains accurate for businesses. And for not-for-profits. And for government agencies.
Look at leadership behaviors in your organization. Could you make the same observations about yours as did the Pope about his?
I love leadership in action. So do followers. If you want your company to succeed, be willing to admit to weaknesses and do something about addressing them.
